2015 Moonlight & Magnolias, 1st Day

I had a busy day at Moonlight and Magnolias conference in Atlanta. I also had a great day.

In the morning, I attended the "30 days, 30 Marketing Ideas" session with EmKay Conner and Margo Diamond, as well as the "Building Your Characters" class, led by Nicki Salcedo. Hearing the ideas and perspectives from other professionals is fantastic. If I can do a better job with my characters, my readers will enjoy the stories even more. And, if I can do a better job marketing my work, I'll reach even more readers. That's an exciting prospect.

You'd think that waiting in line for lunch isn't a fun thing. But it's a great opportunity to talk with other writers and not only get their perspective about the conference, but their ideas and suggestions about things that have worked for them.

Jana Oliver was Friday's featured speaker. Jana shared her writing journey and I can relate to many of her memories. She started writing in her forties, has a patient, supportive husband, and she loves what she does. She shared negatives she has experienced that, again, we have in common. Even though some family and friends just don't understand why she does what she does, and reviewers leave negative comments, she didn't give up.

"Fast Draft and Revision Hell" class was led by Candace Havens. Write a book in 14 days?? Revise it in 14  more days?? Really?? Let's give it try!

Yesterday was fun. Today will be too, no doubt. And, there's the Book Fair & Author Autographing Event scheduled for this afternoon. If you're in the area, do stop by. It's free of course. We're at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Galleria (200 Interstate North Parkway SE). I'd love to see you.
